British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is to be awarded as Ambassador of Traditional Austrian Customs, it has emerged.
Organisers Gexi und Anna Tostmann said the 68-year-old will be awarded at a gala at Vienna’s Palais Niederoesterreich on 24 March.
They argued their decision saying that Westwood has often supported wearing traditional customs with valid arguments.
"There would be no ugliness in the world if all woman would wear dirndls" is one of her best known slogans. Westwood made this statement during a visit to Austria in 2001.
Westwood married Austrian Andreas Kronthaler in 1992.
"We expect both of them attending the gala," organisers of the event – which was first held in 2006 – said.

A baby gorilla was born in Barcelona Zoo, the first such birth in Spain not to require human intervention.
This is rare as gorilla mothers that have been in captivity for long can lose their motherly instincts and often have to be taught how to nurse. It is not uncommon for mothers to lose milk, and baby gorillas born in zoos are often bottle fed.
But the little Barcelona gorilla - a grandchild of the mythical albino gorilla Snowflake - was born on February 28th, under the loving gaze of both of its parents. The Zoo officials claim that the birth was as it would have been in its natural habitat.
The voting to choose the baby's name will begin on Saturday, reports the Spanish daily 20 Minutos. So far there have been four suggestions, including Babule (tender), Engom (March), Kikile (soon or fast), y Nvom (luck). All are in the African Fang language that is spoken in Equatorial Guinea from where the grandfather Snowlake came.
People can cast their votes on Barcelona Zoo's web page.

Shocking YouTube footage of a young fan writing love letters to her pop idol in her own blood have outraged authorities in South Korea.
These harrowing images show a young teenager cutting her wrist with a school craft knife before penning the letter with her finger dipped in her own blood.
The letter - to a home grown rock star - reads: "Lee Chang-sun, don't forget me. You're the only one for me. I love you. Remember me."
Youngsters in the country have developed an obsession with celebrity in excess of anything previously seen in the West.
But critics are horrified at the film, which became an internet sensation in South Korea.
"How a film like this can end up on the internet is outrageous. This girl needs help, not publicity," said one

A Chinese woman is seeking help for her pet dog quit smoking.
Mrs. Li of Beijing said her cocker spaniel, "Treasure", is so addicted to smoking. "She at least needs two cigarettes a day. I have to light one in the ash tray, and let him stay beside to suck the smoke."
Li said treasure started to have feelings for smoking from 5 months old. "When people smoke, she would chase them to smell and sometimes even stand up to suck in the smoke."
Besides smoking, treasure also loves cigarette butts. "She eats all the butts in, and took down the tobacco and then spit out the butt."
Li said once treasure has enough smoke, she would go to sleep with satisfaction, otherwise she would roll over on the ground, demanding for cigarettes.
Li now worries for treasure’s health a lot, since a year ago a hospital visit showed that treasure has shadows on her lungs and her heart and liver are bigger than standard.
"I then asked my family to help treasure to quit smoking. We hid the ash tray to some high places, since she can smell them if we put it in the corner."
Li said now treasure’s addiction is less, but she still needs one or two cigarettes a day.

Over six tonnes of rotten, worm-infested nuts were seized at the Polish border.
Customs officers in Barwinek made the discovery after becoming suspicious when they stopped a trailer crossing the border from Slovakia.
Inside they found piles of white bags and an accompanying smell of decay.
The driver confessed to knowing the produce was rotten but insisted it was for animal feed.
But with Easter approaching, customs officials are convinced it was for sale to groceries and bakeries.
"Given the upcoming holiday period, and thus the increased demand for sweetmeats, it can not be ruled out that the nuts were intended for human consumption," said Customs spokeswoman Malgorzata Eisenberger.
The seizure follows that last year of tonnes of rotten meat imported from Sweden.

Desperate road safety chiefs have put up traffic signs warning motorists of drunks in the road in a bid to reduce accident numbers involving pie-eyed pedestrians.
Mayor Petru Antal ordered the signs - saying 'Attention - Drunks' complete with an image of a reveller on his knees with a bottle - after despairing of accident figures in Pecica, Romania.
"We are a border town and have lots of cars thundering through here all the time," he explained.
"But we also have a very vibrant nightlife and the two don't mix. We have to target the drivers because by the time they get to this state the pedestrians are beyond caring," he added.
